5 Antidotes to Our Modern Anxiety
Ask anyone of a certain age, and they will attest to the fact that we live a more comfortable life than many of our ancestors. Few of us are out plowing a field by hand or walking a mile to school, uphill both ways! Yet with all our modern conveniences, we seem to feel more overwhelmed than ever. And, it isn’t in our imagination. Soaring lifestyle standards, perfectionism fueled by comparison, and a striving for constant fulfillment has become a full-time occupation. How do we handle all the anxiety? Here are five easy tips that will make a difference as you search for “serenity now!”
1) Let go of portraying perfection.
Preparing the perfect dinner party, finding the perfect attire for an occasion, or having a perfect vacation for your Instagram pictures can be exhausting. Ask yourself, do people “care” as much as I think they do? No! Stop holding yourself to unrealistic standards. Seek out genuine, authentic, people who allow you to be yourself.
2) Unplug.
Our ancestors were unplugged, while we have a tendency to be “hyper-plugged”. And, if we’re honest with ourselves, it’s often too much. Technology is a wonderful tool, but just like anything it can be overly invasive and addictive. Make a conscious effort to find balance with your personal technology use.
3) Count your blessings.
There’s a famous saying going around that starts: “If you have food in your fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of the world.” It goes on to show that most of us have much more than most of the world, and encourages us to be grateful. An attitude of gratitude is a wonderful antidote for worry. Why not start a gratitude journal?
4) A supplement that helps.
Consider a clinically tested botanical —a specially cultivated species of echinacea —Echinacea angustifolia, (EP 107). Discovered by Hungarian researchers, it’s not to be confused with using echinacea for colds and flu. This is a single compound from the species found to influence brain chemistry. It doesn’t cause drowsiness, but reduces anxiety with no side effects. In fact, studies showed a reduction in stress in as little as three days. And because echinacea has been used for centuries, we know it’s safe — even for children. The best part? This natural relief in a supplement form at a clinically studied low dose can alleviate anxiety symptoms quickly and safely. This makes it an excellent choice before dealing with any number of stressful events like air travel, presentations at work, or a busy commute. This particular form of Echinacea angustafolia is available in supplement form as AnxioCalm, by Terry Naturally.
5) The tried and true.
Through the ages, eating healthy foods and making time for exercise has stood the test of time in supporting a balanced life. Often, when we do feel overwhelmed, these areas of our life are not on track. Be honest with yourself. How are you doing in these areas?
It’s true—we live in amazing times in a fast-paced world. Apply the wisdom of the ages to your life, and continue to thrive in good health!
