Choosing Supplements for Energy and Brain Support
Today’s stressful, fast-paced and over-committed world can leave us feeling like we lack the energy to complete our daily obligations. As if we were constantly overwhelmed, unfocused, and generally unhappy. Does this sound like you? In life’s chaos, simple solutions often go overlooked.
Amazing B vitamins are here to help! Let’s explore a few key points that reveal which are best and worthy of your supplement regimen. B vitamins are necessary for energy production, carbohydrate metabolism, immune function, cardiovascular and nervous systems support, and much more. They are essential in that they must be consumed; our bodies can’t make their own. Depletion occurs for a variety of reasons including: deficient dietary vitamin B, pharmaceutical drugs, autoimmune disorders, and lifestyle factors such as alcohol and tobacco usage.
What is Methylation?
Methylation is part of a biochemical reaction that occurs a billion times a second in our cells – it allows nutrients to become available for use in the body and helps things work correctly. When methylation does not take place, or takes place improperly, health challenges can arise.
Enzymes are required for every function in the body. Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is an enzyme. Its activity is required to convert, or methylate, folic acid or folate into methyl folate and allow it to cross the blood-brain barrier for the production of serotonin and dopamine in the brain. Folic acid is one of many nutrients that require methylation. If this process is less than successful, we often see symptoms such as a fading sense of wellbeing.
Overcome Improper Methylation
Many people are finding out they have a MTHFR challenge and cannot effectively convert or have limited conversion ability of folic acid into methyl folate. It is estimated 30-50% of the population have some form of this MTHFR challenge. Although there is speculation that this number is much higher, many people do not develop any healthissues or experience symptoms because of it.
Food is obviously your best source of nutrients, and fresh raw foods contain many enzymes. Unfortunately, our diets and lifestyles create a barrier to our intentions of good health. It is almost impossible to get all the nutrients we need from today’s diet. When we throw in stress, pollution, and bad habits, our nutritional status becomes compromised and supplements become a necessity.
B is for Better Health!
Since B vitamins are part of so many functions within the body, and the body cannot make them, it is important to choose the right supplements. Look for coenzymated B vitamins; they are methylated and ready to start performing their duties.
Learning to read supplement labels and understanding what is inside the bottles gives you control of what you consume. Most importantly, look at the supplement facts panel on the bottle, not just what is written on the front, to determine if some or all of the B vitamins are truly coenzymated.
