Immunity, Sugar, Emotions and the Gut
Think of this article as a square building. Each corner must be perfectly in order, and if any one is out of balance, then your body, which this article is addressing, is out of balance.
The majority of your immune system functions in your gut. Your gut is overwhelmingly disturbed by man-made sugar. The majority of the hormone production that will allow you clear thinking and peace of mind depend on the health of your gut, and negative emotions will disrupt the gut. Here’s another way to say all this: We cannot talk about any one of these four things without addressing the other three. They are that intricately entwined, and there simply is no separating them. You cannot address the malfunction of your immune system without talking about your sugar intake, your emotions, and the state of your gut. You may put any of the other three things in first place in the previous sentence, and you’ll correctly need to list the remaining three.
The majority of the medical industrial complex will not address all four if they find one out of order. On the contrary, they will nearly always “treat” each one separately.
The chemistry of vulnerability: 1) stress 2) man made sugar 3) environmental toxins 4) negative emotions – these four things will keep you vulnerable to “disease” and in need of serious healing. Given all this, how do we proceed to healing? The solution is to reduce stress, eliminate man made sugar, reduce environmental toxins and heal emotions.
We think of the task stated above as difficult to achieve, if not impossible. Is this true though? What we need is some simple health strategies in a complicated world. Wouldn’t that be nice? I think it would. At the risk of seeming overly simplistic, I submit the following:
Four steps to reduce stress, eliminate man made sugar, reduce environmental toxins and heal emotions:
1. For a season (21 days minimum!), enter a “healing safe house.” Stop all TV. Don’t read the paper. Do not “scroll” social media. Put the internet on hold. Temporarily put ALL these and other things like them aside to be reintroduced later, sparingly. Will this eliminate all stress? Probably not, but it’s an enormous start. With the time you have on your hands, having eliminated those things, think on what is good. Go basic. You can breathe; you have food, water, and shelter. Then there are good memories. Focus on them. If you have belief in a higher power, tap into that. Smell the roses, look at the birds. During this time, shop for stuff as little as possible.
2. Stop ALL man made sugar. 80% of all processed food contains man made sugar. Pure cane sugar, organic sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and 50 or more others are ALL temporarily OFF the menu. Use RAW honey and REAL maple syrup EXCLUSIVELY. To do so, you’ll NEED to eliminate ALL processed food during this time.
3. Filter your water. Drink 50 to 60 ounces of clean water per day. Stop drinking 10 minutes before you eat. Drink 4 ounces or less with a meal. Wait an hour after a meal before drinking water. Make 50% or more of your diet lightly steamed and/or raw fruits and vegetables. Go outside in your bare feet and walk on the grass for at least 5 minutes every day. Reduce your exposure to EMFs such as your cell phone, your computer, your presence where Wi-Fi is available, etc. Sleep 8 hours per night. Walk 20 minutes per day at least 3 times per week. Learn to do deep breathing outside away from toxic air. For this season, reduce or eliminate coffee and eliminate all alcohol. With two of your meals, eat a tablespoon of fermented food. Will this eliminate all toxins? Probably not, but it’s an enormous start.
4. Healing the emotions is such a big item. The above 3 items are a start. If I were to try and address this with any degree of thoroughness, it would be a 12 page article. That’s not possible. So, let me just say, tap into a higher power and forgive, love, sing and verbally bless those you come into contact with during this season.
We hope you will join Sherry and me this month in our class Immunity, Sugar, Emotions and the Gut where we will explore this in more depth.
